Portmarnock Physio is a new clinic that employs highly trained staff who perform detailed assessments and evidence based treatments for a variety of musculoskeletal disorders.

Portmarnock Physio

Having returned from working abroad in 2015 Alan Doyle and his cousin Robert decided to set up a modern and cutting edge chartered Physiotherapy service in Portmarnock. Originally operating on a part time basis from Naomh Mearnog Gaa club, Portmarnock Physio has grown in popularity and is now up and running full time in the heart of Portmarnock Village. We are a modern practice that uses evidence based treatments to effectively treat a wide variety of musculoskeletal disorders. It is our vision to provide a friendly, enjoyable environment for our clients so we can effectively deliver an effective and confidential service to suit the needs of the public.

At Portmarnock Physio, our therapists are dedicated to continuing their professional development through the study of peer reviewed literature and attending highly specialised courses. This is to ensure that our treatments are scientifically proven to have effect and up to date with modern practices. We create individualised rehabilitation protocols for each client, taking into account their physical abilities, their access to rehabilitation facilities and their lifestyle.

Musculoskeletal injuries

Injury to our musculoskeletal system are very common place and can be effectively treated and prevented. At Portmarnock Physio we specialise in assessing, diagnosing and treating injuries to muscle, ligament and bone tissue. Our therapists are expertly trained in piecing together your injury through subjective questioning followed by advanced physical examination techniques. We then categorise your injury and formulate an appropriate treatment plan to begin your recovery. At Portmarnock Physio we combine hands on manual therapy with sports and exercise medicine to ensure a rapid return to full fitness and activity.

Post-operative rehabilitation

We also specialise in the rehabilitation of orthopaedic procedures, including total joint replacements and joint reconstructions. Our therapists have vast experience in treating a wide variety of orthopaedic procedures. Our therapists have worked in busy Orthopaedic wards in both Australia and the UK. We work closely with your orthopaedic consultant and follow their specific rehabilitation protocol. We provide regular feedback to your consultant to ensure that you are on-track to a fast effective recovery.

Sports massage

Massage therapy is an ancient therapy used as a means to reduce muscle tone, alleviate discomfort and to assist in muscular recovery. We can provide you with a 45 minute massage treatment as a means to prepare or recover from a sporting event, or simply as a means to relax and recharge the batteries. Our therapists have vast experience in performing soft tissue treatments.

Occupational injuries

No job is without risk of injury. At Portmarnock Physio we have vast experience in dealing with a wide range of occupational related injuries from desk related neck and shoulder pain, to overuse injuries of the upper limb. We treat everyone from musicians, artists, to construction and office workers. We also treat victims of workplace accidents in confidence.

Exercise prescription

Exercise is probably the world's most powerful medicine. Like other medicines it has both positive and negative effects and must be individualised in terms of it's frequency, intensity, duration and type of exercise. Our therapists are trained in sports and exercise medicine and can offer you exercise assessments and design a suitable programme. Whether you wish to improve muscle strength, hypertrophy or to effectively reduce unwanted body fat, our team can help you to do this safely and effectively by educating you about the science and encourage a sustained lifestyle adjustment. We are passionate about exercise at Portmarnock Physio and we take great pleasure in assisting people achieve their full potential and embrace health and fitness.

Health and safety

All of our therapists are registered with the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists (ISCP). Our therapists are fully insured to work independently with members of the public both within our practice and outdoors. Our team are certified in basic life support and AED use. We have a fully functional AED unit available within our facility.
